- Chandragupta Maurya relied on a priest advisor called Kautilya
- Kautilya wrote a book called the Arthasastra, which most of the laws were based off of.

- The first army consisted of 600,000 foot soldiers 30,000 cavalry, and 9,000 elephants
- In order to pay, clothe, and feed the soldiers, high taxes were put in place
- After Chandragupta began the empire in the Indus Valley, Rome wanted it back
- Rome sent a general named Seleucus to recapture the area
- Seleucus lost
